Product seems well built. Instructions are good with one comment for improvement on the section “Sighting An Azimuth” part “C”: after trying several positions with and without my eyeglasses on, I finally discovered your eye needs to be close to the Lens Bracket and sighting groove in order to line up on a target while also reading the compass dial. I was trying to view it by holding the compass at arms length as I’ve done for other compasses. Other instructions on setting and following a course seem correct from my field experience; although I haven’t actually done it with this compass yet I see no reason why it shouldn’t work. I haven’t tried the pouch and lanyard yet nor night time visibility.

The first obvious issue with the compass is the lensatic arm is not tight and simply flops around. It will not hold a set position for eye relief. The compass itself will not maintain a bearing. Took multiple bearings on fixed objects and each time got different bearings. The dial seemed to never settle down to a fixed bearing. Used one of these in the Army for over 30 years and never had the issues I did with this one. This one is headed for the dumpster.

Supposedly this is exact military with the exception of the luminous paint. It’s definitely lighter and didn’t seem as sturdy as my other older model. Dial lock didn’t seem as effective as the older one.

This is the real deal. You have you watch out for counterfeits.

  6. Katie Meister

Compass won’t settle down. Keeps spinning left and then right past north. Made sure there was no metal or magnetic interference nearby. No instructions included either. Not sure I can rely on this.

  7. SMC

I wanted something solid and accurate I can throw in my bag and not worry about it breaking. My only negative is how expensive it is. Some tips and usage instructions would be helpful as well.

  8. Eyeguy

This a very well made, durable, and easy to use compass. Looks just like the one I had in the Marine Corps. I got the one with the Tritium dials. I took it into a dark closet and could barely see a faint glow even with magnification so I ended up ordering the one with the phosphorescent dials. Way better choice! Tritium only glows for about 12 years so I checked the date of manufacture and it was 2019 so it should have had plenty of life left.

This compass worked great but the lens was loose. The company did as expected in the dark. But I returned it due to the lense and wanted a tritium compass. I should have kept it as the tritium compass does not illuminate in the dark. Returning that one as well.
